Laser Therapy
HOW DO I KNOW I AM CHOOSING THE RIGHT LASER FOR MY PRACTICE? Adding laser therapy to your practice is an exciting opportunity, however, with all the different lasers on the market and a lot of claims being made, it can be daunting. Whether you purchase a laser from us, or any other company, here are some helpful tips to consider:
1) Identify your priorities: Enhanced patient outcomes? Increased revenue? Reliable equipment? Ongoing training and support? Price? All of the above?
2) REPUTATION: Is the company reputable? How long have they been in business? Who uses their lasers?
3) VALIDATION: Has the company scientifically validated their depth of laser penetration profiles? (how much photonic energy is delivered into the body — not just what comes out of the device. NOTE: This can be very different depending on how the light is delivered and how much heat is produced at the surface)
and have they published this data?
3) EFFICACY: What is the research performed using that company’s laser devices (not just citing the research on low level laser [light] therapy (lllt) aka photobiomodulation (pbm) in the literature) — and what is the quality and outcome of that research (peer reviewed, placebo controlled, double blind, statistically significant outcomes)?
4) CLINIC SPACE/SET UP – make sure you are choosing the right laser for your treatment setting (open vs separate room) For example, class IV* laser requires a separate room whereas class 1M* can be used in an open treatment setting. Do you need a hands’ free option?
5) COST/WARRANTY – High quality therapeutic laser technology is not inexpensive. What is the best quality laser you can purchase in your price range? and what is the warranty on that device?
6) TRAINING/SUPPORT – What is offered by the company for direct inservice training, continuing education and on-going support?
PLEASE NOTE. *Classification of laser is a SAFETY rating only! — and has nothing to do with depth of penetration or efficacy.
